Union Jill, the York-based duo of Sharon Turner and Helen Winfield, are singers, instrumentalists and songwriters showcasing a variety of strong songs in an upbeat style. Snappy and upbeat, their vocals are as tight as a drum and they have a blend of voices good enough to be siblings. They weave spellbinding effects with their rich harmonies. Playing their own material, they’ve established an appealing stage presence and gathered an ever-growing fan base across the UK. Macbeth returns to our world in the present to put the record straight. Shakespeare ("that bald little scribe") got it wrong. He deceived. Macbeth was not the tragedy we know and accept as gospel but rather its truth is a tale of legitimate power and benevolence.
Shakespeare is questioned, reflected and challenged in the name of historical truth and justice. However, the tone is comedic, ironical with a healthy caustic undertone often very funny when worn by one who feels ‘hard done by’.
